March # 2 ??? Anyone ??

N.O. is murder capital for 2006

I think it's time to march down Poydras street again with this headline plastered all over cardboard signs. But this time we DEMAND resignations from Nagin, Jordan, and Riley. The only thing Nagin has done since the last march is try to push the crime camera contract to his cronies (and illegal act in itself) and call that progress. This is pathetic.

I think we should march again with a singular goal....Nagin's resignation....we must demand it. If he refuses, which he will....we march again with pitchforks and run him out of town.

It's Oliver's time....OT must rise.....this will at least give us a leader who actually cares more about the city than steering contracts to peeps.

March # 2's messages:

Nagin Out Now!!!

Jordan Out Now!!!

Riley Out Now!!!

Thomas In Now!!!

I highly doubt it. A lot of money got sluiced into Central City when OT was representing that district and judging by the state CC's in today I'm guessing a lot of that money went into SOMEBODY'S pocket. And very little where it was supposed to.

OT's post-Katrina attitude strikes me as opportunistic posturing.

I think it's a good plan. I'd be there.

I down with the secession too, but always have been a proponent of that!

Dambala,
I agree. It's about time we march again and really take control at this point. No one else is going to do it for us. We need to ban together as a community and demand better than what we have received. I don't think we can stand another 2-3 years of this shit!
Name the date and time and I'll sharpen my pitchforks ahead of time!

The crime camera's weren't his only crazy idea. He had another. It died quicker than a door to door Bible salesman in Fallujah, though.

I'm up for a march anytime.

Are you serious? A march will do nothing, the mayor can do nothing, and the police can do nothing. How hard is that to understand? This issue cannot be resolved from the top down. If the walls of your house start to show cracks do you re-shingle the roof? NO, you fix the foundation. Reeducate, that is the only possible hope. If you want the police and the mayor to fix it, don’t complain when a criminal gets roughed up for running. Human rights activists piss and moan because there is too much crime, then turn around and complain if the police do something to detour crime. We can’t have our cake and eat it too. Personally, I feel that the police should be a bit rougher and I don’t have to worry about it because…I’m not a criminal. If a cop tells me to stop, I don’t run. Then there is always the prison time issue. They go in and get a roof over their head, 3 square meals, TV, gym…why shouldn’t they go to jail. There is no REAL punishment for being a criminal. People need to be afraid of getting in trouble and going to prison if they lack the understanding that committing a crime is bad.
So come on, I know I’m going to get slammed for not being “left” or because I don’t stoop to name calling…so let’s have it. Let me give you some leads, “corrupt politicians show our youth is ok to be bad”, “they have it so hard”, “they feel god and the government have let them down”. Any of those work?

rcs,

I'm not saying OT is the Messiah. I'm just saying he's got to be better than what we have now...at least he cares. All politicians are prone to opportunistic posturing...the difference is if they actually effect policy and create positive change. I think OT is saavy enough to surround himself with competent people, as oppossed to Nagin who has surrounded himself with theives.

that's funny...I have to remember that.

We march, and we start the process of taking back our city.

This is neither Left or Right, it is the Progressive path. It is reclaiming our lives and our homeplace, and an assertion of OUR wishes. We live here.

All of us have been struggling to survive since the Federal Flood, and this fight won't be that much more for us to bare... This could be the Second American Revolution or it will be the beginning of the Succession.

I'm game...

A suggestion: Let's not attack City Hall this time. Let's go after the Louisiana Bar Association Office on St. Charles by Lafayette Park. Let's bang pots 24/7 until they disbar Jordan. Any serious pressure on the bar association and they'll cave (any lawyers want to chime in on that assessment?). That's an achievable goal and will get his sorry ass out of here and save lives.

THEN, we march on City Hall with pitchforks and torches.

Personally I voted for Virginia Boulet.

I think I like part of Clay’s approach. With Jordan out, maybe some criminals will stay in jail. Now Nagin sure doesn’t help the situation either, but we have to focus on the long term and not a short term. We have to change the way people think! This is not a problem that can be fixed right away, though with Jordan and Nagin out it would help. This is something that is going to take a couple generations to fix.

Now step back from your emotions for a sec and look at the situation from the outside. The reason things are the way they are is because it is the “norm” here. Serious corruption has been a major in this city for a long time. Only with, let’s say reprogramming the citizens (all of them, left, right, black, white), will this trend of corruption be eliminated. I will also agree that with reprogramming or education the populous we need to show them that it will work. That is where removing Jordan and Nagin come in. They also need to SEE that corruption and crime WILL be punished. Throw that human rights crap out the window for awhile. The people here need to be shocked; I think that is the only way that they will see that crime does NOT pay. You run from the cops you get tasered. If you did nothing wrong, the cops will not bother you. I obey the law and they don’t bother me.

Seriously think about this, if you remove Jordan and Nagin without reeducating the people you will have someone else come in that will fall into the same trend. Remember, corruption in politics is the “norm” here. Just like everyone here, I want what is best for this great city…succession is not a path that people should think about. People outside LA will respect us if we clean things up ourselves.

And gentillygirl, do you honestly believe that the flood was intentional or were you referring to something else?

Oliver is not experienced in Administration, he is only experienced in legislation. And he is a nice guy, but he won't do what we need. We need a smart, strong, leader who understands how to run a big organization. Not another middle manager or career politician.

If you want to talk about another political action, give me a call. Maybe a march isn't the right thing. We might need a real media campaign.
