Badaaa BAM!

Word on the zombie wire is that things just got nasty for da mayor....in the form of a target letter from Jimmy Letten's office.  Time to lawyer up Ray-Ray.

A rather lengthy, speculative post is forthcoming.

The anthill has been kicked, so to speak.

Will be interesting to see if Ray Ray's public demeanor changes in light of this development.

Surely even he can't be so blase as to not be affected by getting confirmation that the feds are after him.

one aspect of the 2008 nagin schedule that should draw some scrutiny would be the numerous, 5 or 6 over the year i believe, with the ex-ceo/chairman of home solutions of america frank fradella. one meeting included michael mcgrath hsoa investor and former chairman. recently mcgrath was busted for mortgage fraud. http://www.cutimes.com/Issues/2009/March%2018%202009/Pages/Picatinny-FCU-Sues-Fannie-Mae-To-Recover-CU-National-Loans.aspx

recall that the plane to the chicago saints game/las vegas was owned by an executive at home solutions. i dont know why nagin would continue to meet with fradella after fradella was exposed by the times pic and scott sewell as being a con artist. my guess is that fradella was trying to keep hsoa afloat and was pitching scams to get business from the city.

I found 4 meetings:

2 on 6/24/08, with the 2nd one at 5 PM in the Benetech/HSOA office on Poydras (1340 Poydras, Suite 1810)

A third on July 1, again at 5 PM, again at Poydras

A fourth on November 17th, at 5:30, regarding Picke Construction Co (the new name for Home Solutions Renovation, which is a subsidiary of HSOA).

The schedule is available here:

there is at least 1 more, a breakfast at le pavillon w/frank fradella. i dont remember the date. the benetech krewe were split from hsoa by the start of 2008. btw, home solutions owes scott sewell in the neighborrhood of $8million, awarded in arbitration. it is strange to me that the mayor would meet w/fradella multiple times offsite. fradella is a piker. why would nagin leave city hall to meet with this con artist unless there was something fishy? the SEC has fradella by the balls. maybe the DOJ could use some of that to get fradella talking?

Someone needs to check into Assitant City of New Orleans attorney Bob Ellis' (family) relationship to NetMethods & Logistix.

The Ellis/NetMethods information needs to be ascertained by the media quickly because there maybe more rodents eating the cheese.

Dambala, as usual, you are on a roll. Congrats. I too heard a rumor that something came out of Washington today or yesterday with regard to Nagin and a federal investigation. Note that federal protocol requires the local U.S. attorney's office to get clearance from DOJ before proceeding with a criminal case against a high-profile elected official. I'm just speculating, but if my source is correct, it could be that DOJ has just green-lighted a full-blown investigation and possible indictment of Nagin. One huge caveat: Even if this is true, don't expect an indictment anytime soon ... unless the purpose of the trip was to get clearance for an actual indictment, which would mean that the investigation has been under way for months and months. I suspect that any D.C. approval would be an OK to proceed with a full investigation...which could take months or even a year to conclude. The feds move very, very deliberately. But, when then get what they want, they tend to wrap it tightly.

Just sayin'...

Chomp, chomp on my popcorn. I am chewing as fast as I can. This is working its way up towards a good climax.

I need a potty break, refill on my soda and popcorn. It is getting really good... I don't want to miss anything!

Dambala, is your investigation costing you lots of money? I will make another donation if I need to.

on the home solutions front. lee zurik has a story tonight at 10 regarding the renevations at the french market. benetech held the contract but transferred it to hsoa when they sold their associated contractors unit. hsoa is basically insolvent now.

Vern, donations are always welcomed.

Well, the results are in and a 4th circuit court of appeal, including ED LOMBARD, has ordered the emails released.

Only in New Orleans could a guy who might run for mayor sit on a judicial panel that orders the release of material that might help him in that run, or allies of his.

Who knows what Washington *doesn't* release but just gets used for political or legal advantage down the road.
