Strange Bedfellows

So the Zombie wire has another telegram.  Word from the tomb is that Nagin has turned to criminal defense attorney, John Reed, to sheild him from....well...whatever happened with the DOJ the other day.  Reed is a Harvard grad, hyper-intelligent, and ironically enough....reportedly despises Nagin to the core.  Eli has word that Reed's distaste for Nagin comes from Ray getting him kicked off the HDLC (Historic District Landmarks Commission).

Reed is the guy with the red tie on in this picture (far right):

Ray must be pretty desperate to retain an enemy to come to his defense.  I'm sure it doesn't come cheap.  Looks like a Rattlesnake Rodeo is on the horizon.

UPDATE:  E adds this..."I'd like to get better confirmation about the reasons they don't like each other. I haven't been able to really tell what happened with HDLC so take it with a grain for now. "

Update 2:  from E again, "It's confirmed. It happened before the storm. Print it!

Reed represented Derrick Shepherd and Kimberly Williamson Butler.

Reed was Kimberly Williamson Butler's defense attorney:

Reed also won a 1993 case 9-0 in front of the U.S. Supreme Court:

... And it turns out Reed's not representing him anyway. At least that's what he's saying.

Reed represented Dwight McKenna as well and served his appropriate him in prison. John Glass is a hell of an attorney but with the second lawsuit about to be made public its going to get really interesting for Nagin and many others. The second lawsuit from what the rumor mill is going to be the nail in the coffin for this krewe.

It's well known in certain circles that C Ray had it in for HDLC, City Planning, or basically any agency that felt the urge to do anything other than rubber stamp whatever the mayor wanted.

I can't cite a lot of sources, but I had a run down of the pre-K situation included in a post back in 2007:

You can also add NORA to the list of agencies on C Ray's shit list.

celcus is right on there... that's what would make it so bizarre for reed to represent c. ray. i mean meffert was the guy that went in and gutted those commissions...

Actually, it was Eddie Sapir who led the charge to remove Reed from the HDLC. Reed had defended some guy who had been accused and/or convicted of mugging Sapir's wife and Sapir just couldn't let that go.
