Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Johnson Controls 2.0?":

There are definitely contracts being signed right now that are going to make naginites rich. I am an insider. I am looking at it too
.

Folks, now is the time to speak up, before this happens. If you have any information, please share it.

Anon....have you heard of company based in Plano, Texas called Mass Portal?

Doesn't the bulk of Nagin's $600K+ contracts for special legal counsel concern the hospital deal?

Are NORBI and GNOBEDD the next NOAH?

What is the address of the Plano, Tx company? See if its the same as Bob Ellis' law firm or his law partner in Texas.

I still don't get why a full time City Attorney is ALLOWED to have his own law firm someplace else.

Shouldn't he be devoting his time to earning his city pay check? In a normal city that alone would be enough to condemn him, if not to the gallows, then at least to public censure. What a mook.

I've frequently made the comparison to the RTA contract. Johnson Controls is probably more apt, however, Nagin was praised as a reformer because he supposedly made the right choice in buying out Glen Haydel. Because Haydel was forced to pay back money that he over-billed the city (above the amount of his bloated contract) and because the federal government prosecuted and fined him, people got the impression that he was forced to pay back part of the ridiculous contract that Morial (his wife's uncle, if I remember correctly) gave and the half million that Nagin gave him in the buyout. That wasn't the case, although, coincidentally, the half million dollar buyout did end up just about covering his federal fine. The reason I bring up the RTA contract is that I've often wondered how many contracts Nagin's successor be forced to buy out and at what cost?

Anyway, the smug prick announced his intentions and dared anyone to try to stop him when the council wimped out of its effort to reform the awarding of professional services contracts. Remember, the mayor said the council would have to reform the charter to do that. He didn't stop there, remember? He declared that it would be intolerable (implied it would be racism, or that he'd make it racial) for the council to try to call a special election just to amend the charter or to try to put a charter amendment on the ballot in a minor election. A charter change, he declared, to limit the mayor's ability to rob the city blind would have to wait to the next big election, i.e. the next mayor's election.

I agree with BSJ David's analysis, but just to fact-check a minor point: Glenn Haydel is Marc Morial's uncle. Haydel is the brother of Marc's mom, former N.O. First Lady Sybil Haydel Morial.
