ISS - SPECIAL REPORT: How is Obama doing on Gulf Coast recovery?

Hey, he gained a little on Bush.

One interesting comment which came in on a previous post was the speculation that Obama may not be coming to visit New Orleans because he doesn't want to be photographed with Nagin. I think that is one hell of a theory...I've been kicking it around in my head ever since I read it. Makes total sense. It will be interesting to see if Obama makes a visit immediately after Nagin leaves office.

I don't think it's Nagin, frankly imagine the draw he would get in Nola. I think he has his hands full working on the recovery of the health bill which is in ICU right now while he is trying to get all the vulnerable Democrats back in line and on board.

They (democrats in vulnerable districts) lost alot of confidence in their ability to not only pass legislation but also to get re-elected after the August recess.

This is clearly not what the voters thought they would get when they voted for change. Obama needs to regroup, minimize the amount of change done at one time (broad changes freaks people out), make sure he has a clear message that is built on facts and market those ideas and be flexible. The voters are freaking out right now, when you have 1 in 100 people watching Glenn Beck - you know you have screwed up your message BIG TIME.

Also, have Van Jones "leave for personal reasons" - he is becoming a severe distraction to the Presidents message. I am getting really annoyed they won't let go of this idiot, what is he bringing to the table exactly that someone else isn't as qualified and less controversial?

This should be under a different post, but I couldn't decide which one.

You know how you wrote about Johnson Controls, Dambala?

And you know how you've written nice things about South Coast Solar, and other posters have been surprisingly grumbly about that, or suggested that someone should dig into a SCS/Jaeger Foundation connection?

So I finally clicked the link to SCS, and they look great. I googled them, and lots of other nice things about Global Green came up.

But this came up, too:

"Troy Von Otnott says that South Coast Solar is working with Johnson Controls Inc. to bid on a performance contract for state buildings"

USGBC Louisiana Advocacy Committee Meeting Minutes, 6/12/08

www.scribd.com/doc/18985039/null

There is another date, 21, August, 2009. I don't know what that date is.

South Coast Solar still looks great to me. I wonder if this Troy is the same Troy who may or may not be part of the extended family of the BE Posse. If there is a Jeager Foundation connection, that might be a "fair game" question.

Another question becomes relevant, too. If they are doing something as great as taking homes off the grid, do we care if they are breaking eggs to make omelets?

Here's another: is is possible for a good campany to get any work done without working with Johnson Controls/ getting into some other sketchy situation?

And another: aren't the Johnson Controls programmable thermostats good pieces of technology, the kind you'd want to be using?

Anon,

I don't have answers for you there...the truth is those questions should probably be not just a different post but a different blog entirely. I know very little about South Coast Solar...other than they are an alternative to Entergy...and I will promote anything that is an alternative to Entergy.

I have tried to focus on one or two issues, I don't really know a lot about housing, land grabs, permitting, etc.

Sorry to disappoint but there's only one of me.

I do not think Obama is that shallow.

>I do not think Obama is that shallow.<

- Frankly, I have been pretty harsh on Obama, and in all truth I have been on his case as being "shallow" arguably for campaigning while using us as a fundraising and pathos draw but then not delivering when he got to where he wanted to go. [and see Harry Shearer on that point.].

However, Dambala's theory makes ridiculously good sense to me. Nagin is very likely going down, Obama knows it [or his people do] and he likely has no desire to have a future embarrassing shoulder by shoulder photo with Nagin floating around some time next year or afterwards.

shallow? really? I thought it would be a damn smart move on his part.

The Democratic Party needs to do the next in the following year.

1. Fire or eliminate a grip of these czars, it will calm people down and what exactly have they been working on anyway. Some of these people worry me and that's saying something.

2. Work with Pelosi she will get reelected, but Reid and Specter are probably going to lose their seat. The blue dogs are going to need her around to talk to the farther left, but start developing a new lead moderate Democrat - a fresh face America can like. Remember the Clintons were the most successful winning the middle not the far left.

3. Attack the healthcare problem by declaring you are going to fix Medicare and then open it up to the uninsured, advertise you can can do this faster and with more cooperation than creating a new system. Medicare has its strengths but administrated poorly.

4. Attack the Social Security issue, this is going to bite us in the butt - get ahead of it as much as possible, so make it a staple for the remainder of the term and work it into the election cycle.

5. Get out of Afghanistan, the country can't afford it anymore, exit smoothly but quickly. If you don't fight to win, don't fight.

6. Overhaul SEC to give it some teeth so it doesn't look like the administration is going after big business.

7. Do what no politician has done - bring your IG front and center and clean up alot of wasteful programs to balance the budget. It would be a new tactic on what Clinton did.

By the way, I'm the first poster and a conservative, this guy has alot of stroke and can use it to start paying off that credit card we have been charging up for the last 50 years.

Sparky, thanks for the bump Ashe.

Obama can visit NOLA and minimize the Nagin association. That sounds like BS.

Im waiting for Kayne West to declare Obama doesn't care...
