What comes around....goes out the door

Hah! Priceless! He may have used HUD revolving fund cash to pay out that fat ass check.

Zulu check comes with unanswered questions

Funny, cause I just watched a similar scenario with my daughter today on That's So Raven.

Raven's dad gave her 100 bucks to go buy a book she needed for school. But Raven had this party coming up and she really wanted a fly-ass blouse to wear to the party, so she spent the 100 bucks on the blouse thinking she could return it after the party and get reimbursed the money. When she got the money back, she would go buy the book.

Well you can guess what happened....she put the blouse on and spilled shit all over it...Doh! So then she had to come up with the extra 100 bucks to buy the book for school.

Revolver funds are similar but the city puts up the money for a project first, then we get reimbursed by the Govt. entity. The pickle here is that Uncle Sam just cuts the check to the city for the amount and then it's up to us "compensate" city funds for what we've already spent....there's no accounting, on the federal level, for how the compensatory cash is spent by the city.

Man somebody make sure he doesn't take a company credit card down to Harrah's, he's on a roll.

So you're telling me that elementary school girls who watch "That's So Raven" understand the pitfalls of "revolver fund" type mechanisms better than Nagin administration staffers do. I believe it. Nice post.

Some people have posted some interesting scenarios on blogs that they think this is Nagin trying to secure/buy a future job from influential Zulu members with taxpayers' money, or it's to put council members in a position to have to put a hold on it and then scream racism. I personally think that race is playing no part whatsoever in this. There would be just as much uproar if it was any other krewe, white, black or purple, male or female.

I think that was also the plot line of a patrick dempsey movie in the '80s.

Does anybody else think the transition from Nagin to Landrieu is going to look like the scene where Han re-meets Lando?

Star Wars would have offered truer psychological insight if the Imperial forces kept telling themselves and everyone else that they were the Jedis.

Do you remember when Nagin's people called Zombie a Sith?

I was looking at an invitation to a gala/fundraiser for a local non-profit that serves young students in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes. On the donor/sponsor list is "City of New Orleans, Mayor C. Ray Nagin" at the $5000 level. They are a great non-profit organization that serve the area's students, but I am curious where the funds to sponsor under the city's and the mayor's name come from.

Perhaps someone will now look into Zulu's "non-profit" status. Its not unusual for krewes to sell "memberships" to ride on a float. But could it be that in Zulu, some members "own" floats and "sell" spots on them to riders? Ask a non-member who rode this year...who did they make the check out to....follow the money....
