A near miss

This is an interview I conducted with Pearl River resident, Janice O' Berry, about the locks on the Pearl River Diversion Canal.  As she explains, the locks on the canal are not in the best shape and there was a near catastrophic failure of lock #2  as Hurricane Isaac dumped massive amounts of rainfall throughout Mississippi River Valley.  If the lock failed it could have flooded some 1200 homes downstream and the loss of life could have been horrific.

The COE is responsible for the locks but they were not monitoring them as the swollen Pearl nearly overtook lock # 2.  Luckily, Janice and her boyfriend were monitoring it and made officials aware of the critical situation.

I have a series of videos coming on issues that have occurred in the wake of Hurricane Isaac.  Stay tuned.
