The case of the sunken cash takes a twist

I have been posting information on a fishy story about money which I thought was deposited under the radar from city funds into the Municipal Yacht Harbor Corporation. Turns out I may have had the story wrong or only partially correct. This comment came in today:

Ok. it's not that I don't agree with the Nagin bashing as he could do more...we all could...what I have problems with is you don't see the forest for the trees. it's not why did they RETURN 500K to Municiple Yacht Harbor, it's why did they take the 1.8M (may be off by a few 100K but well over a million) of moneies that were to stay in the harbor...why was the harbor manager not using the emoney for up keep and just letting it run down like the projects...

My opinion they are sending money back so as not to get the feds looking into what they did with it in the first place...so you see your pissed about the crooks returning the loot...wrong ...you should just be pissed we have crooks in office.

I don't fully understand this scenario. BAD DOG if you could elaborate more on what actually happened with the 1.8 million it would be appreciated.

Ok the down and dirty of it is...the harbor is a Federally set up enterprise zone of some sort...by law it is supposed to be sort of a non profit where the rents stay low and the money paid in is supposed to stay ONLY in the harbor itself...not city or state funds to be used for other things like help run the city or pay for favors or go on trips or line your pockets with or.....get the idea...well the last harbor master (if i am not mistaken a Marky Mark morial appointee) pretty much didn't do regular maintenance and didn't even repair stuff...mean while the money from rents was being paid into the harbor account...then the city stepped in and POOF...no money here no money there and they still have not seen fit to come up with where the hell the money went...there are two numbers I remember floating around...one is 1.2 million and the other is 1.8 million...No where's to be found. Now I hear (through y'all) 500K went back to the harbor fund....

Now understand, I know some of the people and some of the new people are really concerned citizens wanting to help then there is the board chairman ...a real winner of a guy ...just do what he say don't ask questions if you do he comes down on you like the wrath of god...don’t be scheduling meetings to get crap accomplished...just maintain the status quo...nothing...Lip service and nothing much else...hey it's only been close to two years and the only boats moved out of there where the ones salvagers and insurance thought they could make money on...it took myself and few dumb individuals to get the through ways cleared of sunken boats by diving on them and towing them out of the way of traffic...I do understand Madura may be pushing the pile to get things straight then again I may be wrong....

But the just of the whole thing is it seems what you thought was corrupt money movement may have been the city actually putting it back where it belongs....Or another of my assumptions is they finally figured out how to siphon it off from the harbor account. All I know is the sitting chairman sucks…not doing didly...I probably won’t hit another meeting because the last time he brought his kid …the kid played with the PA system was throwing an empty can around and pretty much did anything he wanted …real good way to have a child act in a city meeting…..then again consider the parent.…

Hey could someone give me a million or so to hold for a few years and I promise when the public catches on I will give it back...well some of it...take a million put it in a money market for a year getting 4.5% and you make 45K a year...wonder where the interest on the money went... ????

Some of this is fact ...the missing money...the state of the harbor before and after the storm. The rest is my assumptions...

The chairman of the board is also a Morial appointee and from what I've heard from multiple sources, a total powertripping crook douchebag who tried to ram through a very shady big money RFP at the very first meeting of the new board. Thankfully the new board voted it down after Midura raised hell about the sketchiness of the RFP.

Bad Dog is also right about the money. The question is where did all that money go which under the terms of the federally issued bond, was mandated to stay inside West End. $500k is a lot less than what they should have in their account and a drop in the bucket compared to the expenses they are going to have to work through to bring that neighborhood back and get the recovery going.

Damn Zombie, let's get to the bottom of this. Can you just e-mail your blog to Letten? How crooked are things really?
