This is yet one more slap in the face to congress and democracy.
For those of you unaware of the story, Sam Fox, an uber-wealthy, St. Louis businessman was nominated by Bush to be the U.S. ambassador to Belgium. What makes Fox controversial is that he was one of the primary conservative funders for the shameful Swift Boat campaign against John Kerry in the 2004 election. Ironically, during the congressional hearings for Fox's approval, he had to sit in front of none other than John Kerry:
Fox wasn't going to get the Senate votes needed for his approval, so last week Bush announced he was withdrawing the nomination. Bush waited until today, while Congress was out on spring break (I just got a mental image of VittyCent and Mary L. in bathing suits at Daytona Beach doing beer bongs), to use a recess appointment to bypass Congressional approval and appoint Fox as ambassador....a move which may in fact be illegal.
Even if it's not illegal, it is despicable. This president has not only shown a blatant disregard for the democratic process our country is built on....he utterly despises it. If we don't impeach him, he will drive this country straight to hell. He may have already successfully done just that.
