An example of our how talented our local MSM journalists are

Having some intimate knowledge of the NOPS board in pre-K, I can tell you that this story about the Mose/Ellenese connection is very telling. If anyone is listening to Jeffrey's notion that this story (Mose/Bill J.) is the great American novel of our time....this article is a must read.

Jefferson case shows meltdown of Orleans Parish School Board

It is a compelling story; if it were fiction, it would be possible to read or watch it without wanting to cry. As it all happens in real life, and we're talking about the lives of little kids who deal with filthy bathrooms and jacked-up ways of teaching core subjects, it just sucks.

A nice feature to do someday would be a "where are they now" of the NOPS Board Members.

* Elenese Brooks-Simms- Heading to Federal Prison

* Gail Glapion?

* Una Anderson- Lost to Hines in Uptown because of anonymously sourced Times-Picayune hit piece. Current whereabouts?

* Elliot Willard- ? Orbiting Jupiter?

* Cheryl Mills?

* Carolyn Green Ford?

Anyone want to fill in the blanks?

Also on the "Where are they now" list:

* Anthony Amato- Run out of KCMO schools (one school district that could give NOPS a run for their money in terms of fucked-up-ness) for trying to yank politically-connected contracts.

* Al Davis-?

* Sandra "18-Wheeler" Hester- Evacuated to Midwest. Will stay there until her child graduates, then heading back home with guns blazing. Still visits the city occasionally.

Gail Glapion's husband recently died. Doesn't say what she's up to.

Clay,

The Mose defense team tried to do some of that for you.

Mose Jefferson, for his part, candidly testified that he did almost no work for the $900,000 he earned as a commission on sales of I CAN Learn math software to the school system -- the money he used to pay kickbacks to Brooks-Simms. Five other board members testified they didn't even know he was involved. A defense investigator couldn't find the remaining member, Cheryl Mills.

It's never as easy to get the band back together as it seems.

I read that in the paper this morning and that's what got me thinking.

Regarding Sandra Hester: She may have a local column coming soon.

Although that may just be Leo thinking out loud. Would be awesome.

>Una Anderson- Lost to Hines in Uptown because of anonymously sourced Times-Picayune hit piece. Current whereabouts?<

From the article:
>The FBI also investigated allegations that Dave Anderson, the husband of board member Una Anderson, took $10,000 in bribes from two trash haulers in exchange for a School Board garbage contract. The bureau taped a phone conversation between Dave Anderson and restaurateur Stan "Pampy" Barre, the alleged go-between for the payoffs, and received a reduced sentence in part for that cooperation. Prosecutors never filed charges against either of the Andersons, however.<

Aside from the fact that senetence about Barre is a fragment (did the paper edition have that?)....

Can someone explain what happened there?

If it was a "hit piece" the TP seems to have dropped it again. If it was true, that there was such a D. Anderson/Barre taped conversation there, what ended up happening? Anyone know?

Otherwise, yes, this was a great article and it makes me wonder how much more TP reporters could lay out all at once about other subjects if they so chose....
