City Business Bump, June 25, 2012

Nonprofit inhabits city property without lease, sublets space

So we know they are paying rent to 12th Ward SOCO illegally, I am still curious how many 501.c3's are housed at that location and more importantly is there rent being paid to multiple locations, ie. 3435 Magnolia, from The New Orleans Urban Tourism Hospitality Training and Economic Development program.

This is a classic....textbook....con-profit ploy pioneered by the Jefferson clan.  House multiple 501.c3's in an empty building and pull rent in from all of them.  Hell, I've even heard of scenario where they sold one of the derelict buildings to the con-profit at an outrageous rate, then the con-profit turned around and sold it back to them at below market rate.

It's a shell game, friends.  It is just like Cedric Richmond/Ike Spears con-profits, NOCAP and NOCE, that were housed in Ike's property, 5437 Crowder Blvd.

American Zombie: Cedric and Ike's greatest hits, Vol. 1

Both con-profits performed the exact same function and they housed them in the same location to give the appearance that they were actually doing something.

Also, Anon is striking gold with every swing of the shovel:

Let me take the time to point something out even though it should be obvious.  What's happening here is called "crowdsourcing".  I have only done a small portion of the sleuthing on this matter, it's Anon(s) who are doing much of the digging.
I am pointing it out because I want to make a point about how AZ and other blogs have changed the landscape of hyper-local journalism and community involvement.  I will expound on this in another post.
All hail the Krewe of Anon.!!!

My favorite is Bajoie's complaint in 2005 to Dardenne RE: a senate ethics bill requiring state officials to disclose money made by immediate family members from federal disaster-related contracts.

Her reasoning:
"I'm going to have to start calling everybody and ask what they're doing and I have a large family," said Sen. Diana Bajoie. "I think this really reaches a little far."

Louisiana
Louisiana's State Department of Education establishes policies and procedures addressing assistive technology services for school districts. It also provides an assistive technology equipment loan program for its districts. The director of the Assistive Devices Center, Renard Compton, says that the center has just recently begun operation. School districts and nonprofit organizations can check out the equipment and try it with their students or clients before making purchases. The Center is establishing 15 to 20 work stations where district staff will receive hands-on training with assistive devices. A conference to inform districts about the center's services is scheduled for next year.

The Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (LATAN) is a nonprofit organization that receives Tech Act funds to promote equitable access to assistive devices and services. Like its counterparts in other states, its major responsibilities are to encourage interagency collaboration and to advocate for statewide reform. The central office for LATAN is in Baton Rouge, and regional offices are in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Another office is being planned for northern Louisiana. LATAN is holding a series of town meetings to promote assistive technology awareness in the state beginning in the fall of 1995. LATAN collaborated with the State Department of Education to provide a statewide training session in June 1995.

The state is calling together a taskforce on assistive technology to give direction to the Department of Special Education and the Assistive Devices Center. This on-going advisory group will have representatives from different regions of the state.
