How much more of this can we take?

Electricity, labor costs blamed for failed steel bid

BATON ROUGE, La. -- German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp AG complimented
Louisiana as a place to do business, but cited the state's high
utility and labor costs in picking Alabama instead as the home of a
new plant worth thousands of jobs.

Blanco said electricity costs and the effects of hurricanes Katrina
and Rita might have contributed to the decision. She said ThyssenKrupp
officials offered few specifics.

We are in a stranglehold and we don't seem to realize it. We are going to be left with two choices...we increase the regulation of Entergy or we repatriate public utilities back to the city and state and give these fuckers the boot....or the third choice....we die.

What's it gonna take to wake up to the fact this company is killing us?

Yeah, Entergy needs to get the boot. They have behaved very, very badly since the storm. We have CLECO on the Northshore, and I'm not aware of any shenanigans on their part. Plus, they had our power back on less than two weeks after Katrina.

And SLU seems to be giving trouble to a wetlands expert who believes in restoring coastline. See the Advocate: http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/7480922.html

I think this is maybe the second time that I completely agree with you and it scares me!

I wonder whether any of the cheap TVA taxpayer provided power gets that far south.

For what it's worth, this was being discussed on WJBO here in BR last Friday. A caller mentioned that he had friends in the Mobile area and some of the normal support vendors for a plant that large had started building offices six months ago.
