A Modest Proposal: Metry Style

So the world as we know it is collapsing around us. Our once-stalwart financial institutions are imploding by the minute these days, and we're on the verge of the biggest economic meltdown since the Great Depression. But lest you think it's because the Bush administration essentially did nothing to head this off when the warning signs were all over the place (sound familiar?), or that greedy corporate entities and banking institutions here and abroad might be complicit, think again.

Metairie lawmaker John LaBruzzo's got another idea: these damn poor people.

Metairie lawmaker considers bill to fund sterilizations

You see, while they may not necessarily be directly responsible for the current financial chaos, all these poor people are a real threat to our economy and, more importantly, to keeping our taxes down.

“I realized that all these people were in Louisiana’s care and what a massive financial responsibility that is to the state,” LaBruzzo said. “I said, ‘I wonder if it might be a good idea to pay some of these people to get sterilized.’”

Hmm. I wonder.

It never ceases to amaze me how protective Republicans are of human rights and human life, as long as the human lives in question are the ones that matter to them. Not on their team? No problem, we'll give you some fast cash to stop passing your genes on to future generations. Not because we don't care, but, I mean, consider this:

"If both the welfare and Social Security system keep growing, one day we’re going to have a small minority of people working to fund and finance everybody else who isn’t working or producing,” LaBruzzo said. “Our kids, who will be working, will be the minority and any vote of theirs will be canceled out."

So it's really about fairness at the polls, see?

"If your livelihood is based on government handouts why would you ever vote for somebody who is going to lower taxes? They never would. So once we reach that breaking point there’s no return.”

And then guys like LaBruzzo won't get elected anymore.

Which is really important.

To guys like LaBruzzo.

I think we can find some common ground here though. I'll consider supporting the bill if he'll consider sterilizing himself first.

To quote your prior post OMG OMG OMG.

You have taken my breath away with this one, and not in a good way. More like getting the wind knocked outta you on the playground.

I can't believe that anyone would seriously entertain this line of thinking. Okay, yes I can. I'm not that naive. But I really can't believe that he'd say it out loud.

It's kinda like all parents: At one point or another we all want to beat our kids silly. There are some that do, and they're criminal in their behavior and should be locked up. Then there are the rest of us. We go to our rooms, calm down, maybe have a drink, then go out and talk to the kid and probably ground him/her. But we do NOT beat them. That's the difference between a child abuser and a NOT child abuser.

That this guy entertained these ideas and then actually put them into the air out loud is frightening. How many more bigots are out there thinking the same things?

Can I do it instead? Please?
