Actually, tis not done yet. There may be more floodplain breaches to come. John Barry (and the Corps)states that this is part of the design per 1927 flood. But they did this before developing all that complicated "flood control" infrastructure up stream all the way to Canada. Can anyone address this? I maintain that much of the flooding on the upper MS above Cairo and particularly in Iowa is a result of the Corps systemic engineering shortcomings. John Barry himself also correctly points out that our own coastal loss is a direct result of the "water engineering" of the upper MS by the Corps.

Maybe it's time to revisit the decisions around the 1927 Poydras levee breaching considering what has happened here.
People still upset with the Downtown decision makers in `27 considering the ACOE have made the same decision 84 years later???
